Olive Grove Lodeg and Holiday Park

Must-see at Olive Grove Lodge and Holiday Park

To give you some ideas as to what you can do at Olive Grove, here is a suggested five-day activity schedule. Do the lot or select those trips that best suit your vacation plans:

Day 1: Check out Olive Grove, relax in our garden hammocks, feed theMoeraki Lighthouse donkeys, swim in the river or just view the scenic riverside. Take a picnic there or have a BBQ on site instead. Take a walk up Millennium Hill, a 1.5 to 2 hours walk with a spectacular 360° view of the Waianakarua valley.

Day 2: Take a walk up the Waianakarua River to the Katiki Boulders. You should wear sandals, carry along some drinking water and a towel - as you will probably get wet. Don't forget your camera (in a waterproof bag) to take a few snapshots of the magnificent scenery.
Have a picnic lunch while you are out there and take a swim in the river. The return trip will take approx. four hours.
In the evening relax in our outdoor Spa and enjoy our exceptionally clear night sky - one of the finest in the Southern Hemisphere.

Day 3: Drive out to Hampden Beach, walk to the Moreaki Boulders, away from the main tourist area. See the Moeraki Lighthouse.

Moreaki Boulders

You should view the boulders from off the cliff bank, a magnificent viewpoint entirely missed by most tourists.
Walk on to the fishing village of Moreaki itself. Friends of excellent cuisine, especially seafood, should visit the famous Fleur's Restaurant - for coffee and cake if you travel on a budget, or a full diner if you want to treat yourself to an unforgettable evening out in a typical working fishing village surrounding.

Day 4: Oamaru - view the historic harbour precinct with its victorian limestone buildings. Visit the Botanical Gardens, take a look at the Whitestone Cheese production and coffee house.
For lunch have a pizza at Filadelfio's, the best pizzeria in town. In the evening view the Yellow-Eyed Penguins returning to Bushy Beach from their daily exploits out at sea.
View the Blue Penguins at the Harbour Side in Oamaru or fur seals at the many sites along SH 1 towards Timaru.

Day 5: This is a full day trip, so ensure you start early. Drive to Elephant Rocks, where most of the Narnia movie was filmed in 2005.

Elephant Rocks

See the whale fossil embedded in the rocks of the film set. Take your lunch at the Flying Pig cafe in Duntroon - the place is a must for traditional Kiwi food.
Afterwards head off along the old Stage Coach road to Dansey Pass. A stop at the vintage Dansey Pass Inn is well worth the time.Flying Pig cafe
Then take in the spectacular scenery of true New Zealand beauty, unspoiled by tour buses and yet undiscovered by mainstream tourism - the gravel road to Naseby. Take along a picnic hamper and don't forget to ask us for some gold pans to take along - Otago is famous for its gold mines. You might get lucky...

Once back at Olive Grove, relax from this day full of great sights by listening to the local bird life, take another dip in our Spa or sooth your body in our Far Infrared Sauna.
